I love a good Bourbon and the good thing with this cocktail is that you don’t need to use your best one. You will be combining the Bourbon with sugar syrup and other things so it’s okay to use a slightly cheaper one. For this one, I used Bullet Bourbon to make mine.

This is in some way very similar to an Old Fashioned, you can see how to make an Old Fashioned here. This too requires Sugar Syrup. Now why we are on the subject of Sugar Syrup – this stuff is a ripoff in the stores. Expect to pay around $8 for a bottle of what is just sugar and water. Learn how to make your own Sugar Syrup here

Now if you don’t like Bourbon, you can try switching out the bourbon for a Vodka – it seems to work just as well!

 

Ingredients for a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

  • Sprig of mint
  • 3 or 4 blackberries
  • 3/4oz Sugar Syrup
  • 4 oz Bourbon
  • Club Soda
  • Ice

How to make a Blackberry Bourbon Smash

Place a few of the mint leaves and 2 or 3 blackberries (keep 1 back for a garnish) into your cocktail glass with the Sugar Syrup. Muddle the contents until blended well. Add some ice. Now add the Bourbon (remember works well with Vodka too) and top off with Club Soda. Stir well, garnish with a mint leaf and blackberry and enjoy.
